Thou Shalt Not Murder

Many people think the Bible says thou shalt not kill in the 10 commandments, but that would be contradictory to so many parts of the old testament.

First thing I want to go over is the battle of Jericho. This is usually a story told to children, but something that is usually not emphasized is what happened after the walls came down. After the walls came down, the soldiers went in and killed everyone, men, women, children, even the animals. Only a few were spared.
Joshua 6
King James Version (KJV)
17. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
21. And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

Next thing I wanted to mention was David and Goliath, I don’t think I need to go over that, he didn’t murder Goliath, he killed him. There are many more times in the Bible where God told his people to go to war.

This leads me to my next subject, carrying a weapon. So many Christians think it’s wrong to carry a weapon, well, Jesus was okay with it. His disciples were armed. In the garden just before Jesus was taken away, Peter drew his sword.
John 18:10-13
King James Version (KJV)
10. Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11. Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

If we are not to kill, that would mean you can’t swat that mosquito biting you. No killing the cow for beef. Watch where you walk, make sure you don’t step on an ant! People that misquote the Bible when talking gun control drive me crazy, there is nothing wrong with killing if it’s for the right reason.

I hear so many Christian say that it’s wrong to do harm because we are to be like sheep. Too many Christians misunderstand what it means to be like sheep. It means to be like sheep to God, to Jesus, but as far as with people, you are to stand up for what you believe in, at all cost. Was David like a sheep to Goliath?
