Blue Host Support

This was so painful for me. I was just trying to do something simple, change the domain on my server. I was pretty sure what I needed to do, but I just wanted to make sure by asking tech support. The fact they couldn’t even understand my simple questions makes me wonder what qualifications they have…

In this conversation, it’s me that had to tell them what to do, they didn’t know, as this conversation will show.

Anyway, here is the conversation:

Hello, Bryan. I’m Dhanya. Welcome to Live Chat. I understand it is important for (you to be change the primary domain of your account. I’ll definitely assist you with this.
I have sent a token number to your registered email address. Please authenticate with the token number for me to get going with this right away.
Were you able to receive the token number?
2:16 am

Bryan
Sorry, email was slow

Dhanya
I’m glad that we are connected.
Thank you for authenticating.
I can see that grpcrepair.com registered with GoDaddy.com. May I know do you wish to assign to this account?
2:20 am

Bryan
yes, I would like to change from fallspc.com to grpcrepair.com
2:20 am

Dhanya
Thank you for the update. Shall I assign this domain to your account?
*grpcrepair.com
2:22 am

Bryan
if you do, will my wordpress stay the same?
2:22 am

Dhanya
I can see that grpcrepair.com not assigned in your account. (he just asked if I would like him to assign my domain to my account, now he tells me it’s not assigned… of course it’s not! If it was assigned, why would he have asked me if I want him to assign it, I mean, that is why I was talking to him in the first place!!!)
2:22 am

Bryan
I own it, it’s on godaddy and I have it pointed to another host right now. I would like to replace fallspc.com with grpcrepair.com for my wordpress site hosted on your server
2:23 am

Dhanya
Without assigning the domain to account, I’m not able to change the primary domain of your account. (again, OF COURSE!! That is why I’m here!!)
2:24 am

Bryan
so tell me what I have to do
2:24 am

Dhanya
And also grpcrepair.com work on our server you have to point the domain IP to us.
2:24 am

Bryan
I know, so tell me what to do
2:25 am

Dhanya
If you wish to host the domain with us, you can point the domain IP to us and it will run from our server.
2:25 am

Bryan
You host my site, not my domain. I just want MY site to have the domain grpcrepair.com instead of fallspc.com, just tell me what to do
I should be able to point my doamin name to your nameserver then you make the changes
tell me what to do
2:27 am

Dhanya
You have to contact the Name server provider fastsecureservers.com and point the A record to 162.241.219.104 . This will help you to host the website with us.
Dhanya left (He never answered my questions, never explained a thing. I’m guessing he didn’t know what he was doing so he bailed out)

Hello, Bryan . I’m Mariyam. Welcome to Chat Support. I’ll be glad to assist you with your domain query
2:29 am

Bryan
I asked you if this will change my wordpress site
2:29 am

Mariyam
Sorry for the disconnection due to network issue, let me continue assisting you (network issue, yea, I’m not buying it, Dhanya bailed out, the server said “Dhanya left”, if it was a network error the server would have said that instead)
2:29 am

Bryan
That’s okay, the last person didn’t seem to know how to help me
2:30 am

Mariyam
Okay I really appreciate your patience. Let me help you
Let me explain it for you
2:31 am

Bryan
Right now my account has the domain fallspc.com. I just purchased grpcrepair.com and would like to change to that.
2:31 am

Mariyam
If you wish to change your domain from fallspc.com to grpcrepair.com , then you need to update the A record it us
The website will not have any changes and it will be fine (wrong, that would keep the domain pointed at my old host who would redirect it toward the new host.. That would be stupid to pay for 2 hosting services having one just pointing it to another. At this point I know that I need to change the nameservers at the domain controlls to theirs, I don’t have to change the “A” record at my current host)
2:31 am

Bryan
after I change the nameservers to yours will it automatically change or do you have to do something too
2:32 am

Mariyam
You have to contact the Name server provider fastsecureservers.com and point the A record to 162.241.219.104 . This will help you to host the website with us. and the website which is showing now in fallspc.com will be showed in grpcrepair.com
After updating name servers, Nameserver changes can typically take 1 to 24 hours to take effect, but they are known to take as long as 48 hours to
So after 24 hours you can contact us and we will compete the work for you (she just keeps telling me to do the wrong thing)
2:33 am

Bryan
what do I do with fallspc.com? There will be 2 domains pointed at your server. There has to be something else that needs to be done
2:34 am

Mariyam
If you do not want the domain fallspc.com, then we can unassign the domain from your account, otherwise we can set the domain fallspc.com as Parked domain so that it will redirect to new one grpcrepair.com
2:35 am

Bryan
I like that idea. So when do you park it? After the new domain propagates? Will the site be down for a while?
2:36 am

Mariyam
Yes once the domain is propagated and assign the new domain as main one, then we can set the domain as parked
2:37 am

Bryan
You gave me an IP address, shouldn’t I be pointing grpcrepair.com to your nameservers:
NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
2:38 am

Mariyam
No the name servers is : NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
NS2.BLUEHOST.COM

A record points to 162.241.217.27
2:38 am

Bryan
I don’t see “A” record at godaddy. All I did for fallspc.com is point the nameservers, why is this different?
2:39 am

Mariyam
You can see A record in DNS custom outsources section
Log in to your GoDaddy account and open your product. …
From the Domain Manager, select your domain name from the list to access the Domain Settings page.
Scroll down to the Additional Settings section and select Manage DNS.
On the DNS Management page, next to the record you wish to edit
A record is used for website host and name servers is to point the domain all the DNS records to us (You can’t change the “A” record at godaddy, at godaddy you point the nameservers to a host, then you change the “A” record at that host)
2:40 am

Bryan
why is this different?
2:41 am

Mariyam
Name servers will update all the DNS to us so that you can create emails and website using the domain
A record is only for website host (So why would I just change the “A” record??? Why wouldn’t I want to have the ability to have email addresses with my domain? If I didn’t know what I was doing, I would have done this the wrong way and not have what I wanted, I would have to pay for 2 hosts and no email accounts)
2:42 am

Bryan
The DNS page on godaddy doesn’t have any other options, only to change the nameserver
I don’t wnat just the A record, I want the domain to be just like fallspc.com was, I pointed the nameservers and everything is how I want it. Why would I do this different?
2:43 am

Mariyam
Okay In that case you can leave the A record , because name servers will update all the DNS to us
2:44 am

Bryan
I understand now, you want me to keep using my old host and just change the a record, but I don’t want anything to do with fastsecureservers.com, I want the domain controlled by you
okay, so this is what I need to know, when I change the nameservers, how will you know when to park fallspc.com?
2:45 am

Mariyam
No, its not like that
Once you change the name servers hr domain will be controlled by us only (does not even come close to answering my question..)
2:46 am

Bryan
yes, that is what I said, I DO NOT want fastsecureserver anymore, just like I said, I want YOU to have full control
2:46 am

Mariyam
Once you change the name servers and propagated , then contact us back after 24 hours and then we will help you to change the domain grpcrepair.com as primary , so the other domain will be automatically get parked to new domain
Yes I understand Bryan
2:47 am

Bryan
So grpcrepair.com will be parked until I contact you to change it?
2:48 am

Mariyam
The domain grpcrepair.com will remain as it is now until you change the Name servers
2:48 am

Bryan
I KNOW. AFTER I change the nameserver, what happens? Once it propagates will it be parked until I contact you??
2:50 am

Mariyam
No, Bryan, it will be showing the old website until you contact us and we add the domain here (this is impossible as I show her)
2:51 am

Bryan
how can it do that when the nameserver is pointed to NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
NS2.BLUEHOST.COM? The web will not point it to the old host
2:51 am

Mariyam
Yes till we assign it here , only then the domain will point to us Bryan (NO, once I point the nameservers to Bluehost, the internet will send anyone typing grpcrepair.com to bluehost where there is no site, it can’t show my old site because that is not where the nameservers will be pointed too)
2:52 am

Bryan
yes, so if someone goes to grpcrepair.com, the nameserver will be NS1.BLUEHOST.COM so the current page can’t be displayed because that is at a different nameserver. This means the site will be down until you take it.
I don’t see how it can show the current site at fastsecureserver.com when I have it pointed to NS1.BLUEHOST.COM

2:55 am

Mariyam
Yes while propagation is done successfully the site will not show (AH HaH !! She said the opposite just a second ago, this is what I said), but while the propagation the site will be displayed
Once the propagation is completed we are assigning it to new account and website will work fine as before
So there will not be much down time for the domain
2:57 am

Bryan
are these the nameservers and did I spell them correctly?

NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
NS2.BLUEHOST.COM
2:57 am

Mariyam
Yes it is correct
2:58 am

Bryan
okay, I made the change. Hopefully it propagates fast
2:59 am

Mariyam
Sure! I really appreciate your patience.
It will propagated without any issue and will complete soon
2:59 am

Bryan
okay, thank you for the answers and help
3:00 am

Mariyam
Once the domain is propagated, you can contact us back to assign it here
I really appreciate your patience. My pleasure
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
3:01 am

Bryan
no, that is it for tonight
3:01 am

Mariyam
Stay safe and take care of you and family 🙂
3:01 am

Bryan
You too, goodbye
3:02 am

Mariyam
